"Why didn’t the United States drop an atomic bombs on Tokyo?"
Videoda söylenenler
Why didn't the United States drop atomic bombs on Tokyo, considered the political center of Japan, but instead targeted the two cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki? On August 6th, 1945, a Boeing B-29 bomber carried the atomic bomb named Little Boy and dropped it on Hiroshima. Just three days later, another bomb named Fat Man was dropped on Nagasaki. So why did the United States choose these two cities instead of Tokyo? Firstly, before the atomic bombs were dropped, Tokyo had already been heavily bombed by the U.S., resulting in severe destruction. Thus, the U.S. aimed at cities that were still intact to test the power of the new weapon and to demonstrate its strength to the world and to the Soviet Union. Nagasaki and Hiroshima were also major industrial and military centers in Japan. So targeting these cities would inflict significant damage and prompt Japan to surrender quickly. Moreover, Tokyo was the political center and possibly the residence of the emperor. If the emperor were killed, it would severely disrupt the surrender negotiations. The U.S. wanted Japan to surrender unconditionally, and the emperor's presence could facilitate this process more smoothly.
