You probably know this landmass as Great Britain, or the United Kingdom, or England. But which one is correct, and what is the difference between them? Firstly, there are two main islands. The smaller island, called Ireland, consists of two countries, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. And the larger island consists of three different countries England with its capital in London, Scotland with its capital in Edinburgh, and Wales with its capital in Cardiff. So, when you hear England, it specifically refers to this country in the southern part of the island. When we talk about Great Britain, it is the name of a large island with three countries on it And when we speak of the United Kingdom, we refer to the country that includes all the countries of Great Britain and the country of Northern Ireland. The Republic of Ireland, with its capital in Dublin, is a separate country and part of the European Union, unlike the UK. All these territories together are known as the British Is les, which include Great Britain, Ireland, and over 6,000 smaller islands belonging to them.
