A McDonald's spokesman confirmed Thursday plans to redesign the spoons, be- cause "it has been brought to our attention that people are using them illegally and illicitly for purposes for which they are not intended." THE SPOKESMAN said the design of the new spoons and the date of their introduc- tion haven't been determined yet. Use of the McDonald's spoons by drug users reportedly was discussed at recent hearings of a United States Senate subcom- mittee on proposed legislation to outlaw the sale of narcotics paraphernalia. Makers of cocaine spoons and other de- vices protested such legislation, citing what they called the easy availability of the Mc- Donald's spoons.
