Hi, I'm Admiral Rachel Levine, and we're here talking about food is medicine. I'm so excited to speak with Leah Pryor, executive chef and founder of the Culinary Medicine Program at the University of Vermont Medical Center. Tell us what people should know about your model and maybe how other medical centers could replicate your model to help people. So when I think about how we can move the needle, I really like to think, how do we get that into the hands of the practitioner? So right now, what we are really focusing on is we're focusing on building curriculum for our school of medicine, for our school of nursing, as well as dietetics, health coaching, and basically any type of clinician or practitioner who can use this tool. So when I think about, you know, plug and play programming and talking to other universities and other healthcare kind of organizations, I really see it as the way we make actual change. We have a chef educator, which I am one myself. We have registered dieticians. We have relationships with PT and OT. And we also have a garden educator who is a horticultural therapist. So when you look at that team, you really see all the sc opes that can really help people get to their optimal health We have all of these programs like shared medical appointments where we work with a doctor, a chef, educator, and registered dietician where they have two hours of in- depth conversation on how they can really help move the needle with their peers and themselves. Then we have a teacher. Then we have a teacher. Then we have the learning garden program, which is this totally opposite style, but at the same time teaching people to get into their gardens. And that program has a registered dietician, a chef educator, and a garden educator. We have, you know, CSA shares that we have put into different types of clinics where we can offer some food access as well as just good old-fashioned culinary compet encies. So all of these things, when you wrap them all together, you're really able to have a strong tool that helps our providers. Produced by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
